Our Lady of Carmel

I painted this from a picture of an icon of Mary, it’s called “La Bruna”
And is the oldest image of Mary and has been adopted by the Carmelites. It’s title from the dark complexion of Our Lady in the painting. The gold represents holiness, the presence of God. The blue proclaims her divine motherhood. The red color symbolizing love, the strong love of the Mother towards her son, Jesus.
The prayer on the back has never been known to fail.
I saw the image on a church bulletin and had to paint her.
She is 12 x 12 x 2 inches, oil, cold wax and gold leaf on cradled mdf board , it can be hung or will stand on its own on a table or bookshelf. The 2 inch edges are a continuance of the painting.
I signed it on the right lower side and the back.
